Lois Dodd and Elizabeth O'Reilly
Lois Dodd returns this September to teach her “Outdoor Painting Workshop”, joined by Elizabeth O'Reilly. Ms. Dodd was born in Montclair, New Jersey in 1927 and attended Cooper Union in New York from 1945 to 1948. Ms. Dodd taught at Brooklyn College from 1971 to 1992. She is an elected member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, and the National Academy of Design. Currently the Alexandre Gallery in Manhattan represents Ms. Dodd. Her work is also shown in Maine at the Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland and can be found in collections at the Portland Museum, Portland; Bowdoin College Museum, Brunswick; Colby College Museum, Waterville; the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, Ogunquit; and at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. She resides in New York City.
Ms. O’Reilly received her B.Ed at the National University of Ireland and a MFA at Brooklyn College. In addition to teaching watercolor and collage at the National Academy, she has also taught at Parsons School of Design, the New School, and Brooklyn College. She exhibits regularly at the George Billis Gallery in Chelsea, NYC. She has also shown at the Hagerstown Museum of Art, Maryland, and the Royal Hibernian Academy in Ireland. Ms. O’Reilly’s work is shown in several corporate and public collections, including the State Dept. in Washington, DC; the State Collection, Ireland and the Ballilnglen Foundation.
Ms.’ Dodd’s and O’Reilly’s workshop will be primarily in oil, however students are welcome to work in other mediums if they prefer. They will help students set up to paint, and will be available throughout the day, mingling with students as they work on the grounds or in the studio building. They will not be giving demonstrations. There will be group critiques at the end of the day.
